Eul (을) and Mu (무) Day Master Compatibility

A push-and-pull dynamic

Eul (을) and Mu (무) are two of the ten Day Masters used in Saju (Four Pillars of Destiny) astrology. If your Day Master is one and a partner, friend, or coworker's is the other, here's what the traditional Five Element relationship between the two tends to look like.

Eul (을) is traditionally described as the flowering vine — flexible, sociable, and quietly persistent — an adaptable diplomat who finds the path rather than forcing it. Mu (무), by contrast, is traditionally read as the mountain — steady, protective, and immovable under pressure — the reliable center of the room, occasionally stubborn as bedrock.

Eul (을)'s element (Wood) is traditionally read as restraining Mu (무)'s element (Earth) — the "controlling" relationship in Five Element theory, the same cycle behind wood parting earth or metal cutting wood.

This tendency doesn't mean conflict is guaranteed — many traditional readings frame a controlling relationship as one partner grounding or focusing the other's energy in a useful way. It does suggest that friction, when it shows up, is worth naming directly rather than letting it build, since this dynamic can otherwise tip toward one person feeling managed by the other.

Curious what this looks like with your actual birth chart? The Saju Compatibility tool on this site calculates both Day Masters from real birth dates and times, along with each person's full Five Element balance.
